Calculate your annual Zakat obligation according to Islamic law
Zakat al-Mal is the annual obligatory charity on wealth in Islam. Every Muslim whose net assets exceed the nisab threshold (85g of gold or 595g of silver) for one full lunar year (hawl) must pay 2.5% of their zakatable wealth. In Morocco, the Supreme Scientific Council's fatwa guides the calculation according to the Maliki madhab. Zakatable assets include cash, bank savings, gold, silver, stocks, business inventory, and receivables. Your primary home, personal vehicle, and personal-use jewelry are exempt.
The nisab is the minimum wealth threshold above which Zakat becomes obligatory. It is set at 85 grams of gold or 595 grams of silver. Morocco's Supreme Scientific Council recommends using the silver nisab (lower threshold) to benefit more people. Your wealth must remain above the nisab for one full lunar year (354 days).
Once your net zakatable assets exceed the nisab for a full lunar year, you must pay exactly 2.5% (1/40) of the total. This applies to cash, gold, silver, investments, and business assets. Debts you owe are deducted before calculating. The rate is fixed by the Quran and Sunnah and does not vary.
Zakat al-Mal is the annual obligatory charity on wealth prescribed in the Quran (9:60). Every Muslim whose savings exceed the nisab threshold for one lunar year must pay 2.5% of their zakatable assets to eligible recipients.
