Zakat al-Fitr (also called Sadaqat al-Fitr) is an obligatory charity that every Muslim must pay at the end of Ramadan, before the Eid al-Fitr prayer. The Prophet ๏ทบ prescribed it as a purification for the fasting person from idle talk and obscene speech, and as food for the poor (Abu Dawud). In Morocco, the Supreme Scientific Council sets the amount annually. Currently 25 MAD per person (or about 2.5 kg of staple grain) for 1447H/2026. It must be paid for every family member, including infants.

Every Muslim who possesses surplus food beyond what is needed for themselves and their dependents on Eid day. The head of the household pays on behalf of all family members: spouse, children (including newborns), and any dependents under their care.
According to the Maliki madhab followed in Morocco, Zakat al-Fitr can be paid either as food (one Sa' is about 2.5 kg of the region's staple grain: wheat, barley, dates, or flour) or as its cash equivalent. The Supreme Scientific Council has set the cash value at 25 MAD per person for 1447H/2026.

Zakat al-Fitr is an obligatory charity paid at the end of Ramadan by every Muslim. Its purpose is to purify the fasting person and provide food for the poor on Eid day, as prescribed by the Prophet ๏ทบ in the hadith narrated by Ibn Abbas (Abu Dawud).
