Islamic Baby Naming Rules: What Is Allowed, Recommended, and Forbidden
Choosing a name for your newborn is one of the most important decisions in Islam. The name a child carries for their entire life shapes their identity and reflects their family's values. The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ gave clear guidance on which names are best, which are acceptable, and which must be avoided.
Use our Islamic Baby Names tool to search, filter, and find names by meaning, gender, and origin, all compliant with Islamic principles.
Why the Name Matters in Islam
The Prophet ﷺ said:
"You will be called on the Day of Resurrection by your names and the names of your fathers, so give yourselves good names." — (Abu Dawud — Hasan)
And:
"Indeed, you will call out to each other by your names on the Day of Judgment." — (Ibn Hibban — Sahih)
A name is more than a label, it is a du'a, an identity, and a responsibility.
