The Four Sacred Months Through 2027
Allah designated four months as sacred, in which good deeds are multiplied and fighting is forbidden:

The Two Eids of 2027
Moroccans celebrate two main festivals each year:
Eid al-Fitr, ~Wednesday 10 March 2027
The festival breaking the fast after Ramadan, known in Morocco as the Small Eid. Families attend the Eid prayer, pay Zakat al-Fitr beforehand (it was 25 MAD per person in 1447 AH; the Higher Scientific Council will set the 1448 amount nearer the time), and share Moroccan sweets such as chebakia, kaab el-ghazal and briouat.

Eid al-Adha, ~Monday 17 May 2027
The festival of sacrifice closing the Hajj rites, known in Morocco as the Grand Eid. Families sacrifice a sheep (or goat/cow) following the sunnah of Prophet Ibrahim (peace be upon him) and distribute the meat to family, neighbours and the poor.

Ramadan 1448, ~8 February to ~9 March 2027
The first day of Ramadan 1448 AH is expected to be Monday 8 February 2027 (give or take a day), to be confirmed by a ministry communiqué on the evening of 29 Sha'ban. Over 29–30 days, Muslims in Morocco fast from dawn to sunset and fill the nights with Taraweeh prayers in every mosque in the kingdom. The last ten nights are devoted to seeking Laylat al-Qadr, most likely the twenty-seventh night (~Saturday 6 March 2027).

Hajj 1448, May 2027
Morocco's Hajj season for 1448 AH has already passed key milestones: the ministry held the lottery between 2–13 March 2026, the Royal Hajj Commission set the official package at about 63,000 MAD per person, and payments were collected between 29 June and 10 July 2026. The rites take place, Allah willing, from 8 to 13 Dhul-Hijjah (~15–20 May 2027), peaking at Arafah (~Sunday 16 May) and Eid al-Adha (~Monday 17 May 2027).

Islamic New Year 1449, ~6 June 2027
The Hijri year 1449 AH begins around Sunday 6 June 2027 (give or take a day), commemorating the Prophet's ﷺ migration from Makkah to Madinah in 622 CE — the event from which the Islamic calendar counts.

Ashura 1449, ~15 June 2027
Ashura (10 Muharram 1449) is expected on Tuesday 15 June 2027 (give or take a day). The Prophet ﷺ recommended fasting it (together with the ninth day) to expiate the sins of the past year. In Morocco, Ashura carries a distinctive tradition of generosity to family and charity to the poor.

How Morocco Fixes These Dates
Unlike countries that rely purely on calculation (such as Saudi Arabia's Umm al-Qura calendar), Morocco confirms every month by naked-eye crescent sighting. A national committee of scholars, astronomers and ministry officials meets on the twenty-ninth of each month; if the crescent is seen, the new month begins that night, otherwise the month completes thirty days.
